sometimes i get a container of bubbles off the shelf and blow bubbles for my cat. his love of this game is intense. he jumps for bubbles, stalks bubbles, meows at me angrily when i stop blowing for too long… he LOVES bubbles. so i was babysitting my nephew the other day and thought maybe he would also appreciate bubbles. being 16 months old, it’s his time to discover the wonders of a soapy film surrounding a volume of air.
he loves it too. but mostly he just wants to put the bubble wand in his mouth. and be next to the kitty. i tried to teach him to blow bubbles rather than just sucking glycerine from a plastic stick. while he can blow on hot food most adorably, his bubble blowing skills need some serious work. we’ll get there though, oh yes.

island adventure tea

the best thing about finer things club, is how supportive we can be of one another. i only read 8 pages of our chosen book this month.
8. yes.
nuala read the spark notes and christine and kristen read 100 pages (a third of the book). but we still managed to have a lively discussion about goat killings all the same. full disclosure: we’re unanimously against random violence against baby goats. maybe if you eat the kid we’ll forgive, but if you’re just killing it? NO FORGIVENESS, CRUSOE.

after tea we watched pirates of the caribbean to continue our island adventure theme. we were supposed to watch swiss family robinson (who can not love ostrich racing? are you with me?) but i fell down on the job and didn’t manage to get it in time.
next month will be crazy lady month. we’ll be reading jane eyre or wuthering heights or the yellow wallpaper. i have no idea yet what costume this reading endeavor will spark, but man i am excited. also what foods do crazy ladies eat? i’m not eating rats or anything. what do you think insane people on the moors (scottish thistles?) or locked in turrets (moths?) eat?

in your face. apparently boy doing the biography on Tolkien has LOTS of friends and is also 6 feet tall. i feel the combination of extreme height in a 4th grader in addition to the advanced reading skills should have swayed the issue in your favor. but no, it didn’t. my mom said he is befriended left and right.

i am looking at applying to a job in lawrenceville, NJ and checking google maps i see it is next to a town called PRINCESSville.
saints be praised. how on earth did the town achieve such fabulous nomenclature? curiosity leads me to wikipedia. where, sadly, nothing exists. though i do discover a PRINCEville in north carolina.
i think princessville might only have 3 streets. but every one of them is bursting with princesses.

gimp aligator

i went to the california academy of science with the fam to see the fishes. sadly the albino aligator of which so much had been touted, got bit in the foot and was off resting up in a la-z-boy somewhere.
i liked the penguins and the sting rays. plus the whole place is just really pretty: full of light and interesting shapes. i recommend going to see it, but i warn you against the ridiculous lines and number of people. make sure you go way early and maybe not for a few months or at least not on a weekend/holiday.
