coachella 2003

my curiosity spurred on again by nuala’s mention that the webpage has more up to date info for 2003 sent me into tizzies of excitements. but then i went to the webpage and it’s still just the same old from last year. so then i checked out the bulletin board and this is what i’ve found out:

band list out second week in february

concert on april 26-27

someone named ben kweller will be there

there is a potential for beastie boys and hole

hotels are already filling up in indio

“April 26-27 Fourth Annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Performers have yet to be announced for this super-successful festival, but judging from last years line-up (Pink, Oasis, Bjrk, Chemical Brothers, Siouxsie & the Banshees and the Foo Fighters), expect the best. Empire Polo Grounds, 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio. Tickets will be available through TicketMaster.” (pink wasn’t there so i am not sure if this website is all that valid.

anyway, i panicked at the idea of having to stay an hour away again, even though super 8 is hecka great. so i made a reservation (which i can cancel. nobody call me crazy yet.) for this hotel for the 25-27th. i got a 3 doubles room. so logistically it could fit 6 people, (even though i only said 4 would be there). who i am thinking will be: me, kristen, nuala, erica, jolie, marina. but then i think jenny might come and maybe kim? and then i know jacob? dianna? gene i think is not coming. sean? jason will be in jersey. emily? marina’s mark? our marc? ian and tracy? maybe we need more rooms! maybe i need to panic! eeeep! hee hee hee hee. oh man. i love myself.

What happened to the camping plan?! It s awash and gone I suppose. And I didn’t say it had an updated website I said I couldn’t find anything except the dates, which I got wrong and that they had no line up.

And really after last year I think it’s a good idea to plan this early.

  2. michele

ohhh…..i forgot about that….hmm…..wellll…..you could go camping. i think i want a hotel room since coachella itself is spending all day in the dirt outside.

do other people want to go camping?

  3. Jolie

    two things…

#1 I would also like to go camping near the ocean! I didn’t get to go last time because I was still in Tacoma and it sounded so lovely.

#2 Thank you Michele for making reservations. I think it’s a very smart idea. And, I think we will appreciate showers and soft beds after day long outdoor concerting. =)

btw – How much is this bizzness gonna set me back? Oye, having fun and recovering from fun in soft beds is tooo hard.

  4. michele

welll…. 2 days of coachella is $125 i think. and the hotel is total before tax and stuff $405, which will make for about $75 each for the whole weekend.

  5. michele

but also the happiest and most fulfilled. one day of coachella is only $75 (i know not much better) and then you’d have to find something to do all by yourself for a whole day. but maybe this plan will not be so bad once you get a look at the line-up. cause maybe one day will be shitty. (ha! i bet they will both be awesome! cause i am uber-optimistic like that!) coachella yey!

  6. dianna

*stops grabbing jacob’s elbow and saying can i post can i post can i post*

ben kweller kicks booty. he’s the king of geeky endearing geeky rockness. jacob’s laughing at my description, but i stand by it.

then again, he’s also playing around here in february* and for less than $200. speaking of which, i don’t think i’ll be going. sadly. sadly, i’ll be sadly staying home and not going to coachella. but it does look fun.

    sadly.

*i should point out that that sentence refers to ben kweller, not jacob. sheesh.

  7. michele

yes inside exciting scoop of ben kweller greatness! this is going to be so great! i am so excited!

(can you tell? what with all the ‘”!’s”)

maybe there will be so many other super great people that you will find 200 to be a paltry amount and come anyway, dianna. in which case: yey dianna! coachella yey! hwee. =)

  8. didofoot

last year we had 5 people in a room. i slept on the floor and was fine with it, so if i can find 4 people willing to share beds with each other then we have ourselves a super cheap room my friends. and anyone else who wants to sleep on the floor and defray the cost with us. i definitely don’t want to camp more than floor-sleeping is camping. showers! yeah!

  9. michele

um dood. did you read the whole post? cause currently in one room we have 6 people! yes 6. that’s right. and 3 beds. i think maybe theoretically we could possibly fit 7. but that’s a lot of people to shower in the morning. but possibly not all the people i am reserving the room for will come in which case we’ll have room to fit other people. mmmm people. i have to yell at my brother about getting a room too. and about setting up booth and stuff. dj dan might be there. and dj shadow. and BLACKALICIOUS IS A POSSIBILITY!!! EEEEE!!

  10. didofoot

OHHH. sorry. i read that as 3 rooms with one double each. and i was like, wtf? what are you thinking, miss suddenly extravagent? are you making deals with the mob now or what?

so far i am not crazy for any of these artists though. so i require that the lineup be at least as good as last year before i reserve my ticket. i still have faith though.

  11. didofoot

ha, yes, you should have heard me and michele trying to figure out a good day for baseball…SIX MONTHS FROM NOW.

  12. michele

there’s a one person line up of ben kweller. and…there are tickets i think. and there’s certainly a hotel room. and……um yeah. and we’ll be playing baseball (if we do play) in less than 3 months. not 6 sooo….and we were discussing location not day. although we could discuss day too….

  13. Sam Lewis

I hear Soundtrack of Our Lives, White Stripes, The Polyphonic Spree, Royksopp! will all possibly be there. Of course, I can’t forget RADIOHEAD, who are also rumored to be there…insane!

    See you all there…

uh oh, coachella people are starting to find me. =P

but i am curious as to whether feathergun will be playing there? because i am quite liking ‘saw your thong’.

  15. Lawrence

I like “Saw Your Thong,” and really, anything tangentially related to sawing in that region.

  16. Sam Lewis

OK so no Radiohead…and sadly, no Feathergun. Hey, there’s always next year! But still a great line up and I’ll surely be there again in full force with the thong-radar. Thanks for checking my tunes out, if you’re interested – we just finished a full length cd (10 +1) so pick up a copy if you feel so inclined.
